OVERVIEW

Laser Fungal
Nail Removal

There are many prescription and over the counter treatments for a fungal nail infection, but these are lengthy and often only give limited or no success. The Alma Harmony XL platform uses two types of laser – KTP and Nd Yag – to treat fungal nail infections. The lasers are passed in turn over the nail plate and into the nail bed, causing it to heat up. This heat breaks down the fungal spores, and is absorbed by the fungus causing it to die and infection to begin to clear. As the nail grows out, a healthy nail should show at the base and the infection gradually grows out.

Used to treat

Frequently
asked
questions

Nails on the feet or hands can be treated.

During a consultation, your treatment goals and expectations will be discussed, the nails requiring treatment will be assessed and a treatment plan will be completed by one of our practitioners. You will be asked to fill in a medical history form before signing consent documents and pre-treatment photographs will be taken. Nails will be cleaned with alcohol prior to treatment commencement. The lasers will then be passed over the affected nails. Once complete, detailed aftercare advice will be given with regard to hygiene and additional measures for laundering socks and disinfecting shoes.

Laser treatments have a high success rate in most patients who have been confirmed to have a fungal infection. This must be confirmed by your GP. We cannot guarantee it will not return as fungal infections can still live in the body, even if they don’t present in the nails at that time. Medical conditions such as diabetes, and those causing the immune system to be low can affect treatment.

A test patch is not required for fungal nail treatment.

Patients generally tolerate fungal nail treatment well. The treated nails will feel hot when the laser is passed over them but this is brief and temporary.

The skin surrounding the treated nails may feel slightly warm and tender following treatment but this will not last long.

All our laser treatments are carried out by our laser practitioners with over 10 years experience in skin and laser procedures.

We ask patients to attend their appointment free from nail polish, gel or acrylic. Hands or feet should be clean and dry. If treating the feet, it is advisable to bring a clean pair of socks to wear after treatment.

Prices start from £85 per session for one big toenail.
