OVERVIEW

Masseter

The masseter muscle is located in the jaw and is used primarily when chewing. An enlarged masseter can be caused by a clenched jaw or teeth grinding through stress, concentration or during sleep. This can cause headaches, pain in the jaw and signs of wear on the teeth (temporomandibular joint disorder or ‘TMJ’). Injecting the masseter can weaken the muscle to relieve these symptoms and visually slim the face.

Frequently
asked
questions

You will be asked to attend a consultation with one of our nurse prescribers, during which they will carry out a medical history check, assess the area(s) of concern and agree upon a treatment plan to suit your needs. Immediately before treatment, your practitioner will take you through the consent documents and take some pre-treatment photographs. The treatment area will be cleaned and numbing cream or injection administered. Once the area is numbed, the injections can take between 5 and 15 minutes, depending on the area. The nurse prescriber will massage the area after injection and post treatment photos will be taken so you can see your results. You will then be given aftercare advice, which will also be emailed to you.

Fillers are suitable for any skin type and they can be done from age 18 onwards. As each patient is different, some may require more ml of filler than others, often over multiple treatments to achieve the desired result. Your practitioner will discuss realistic expectations with you prior to treatment.

A patch test is not required for dermal fillers.

As topical anaesthetic is applied prior totreatment to minimise discomfort, our dermal fillers are generally tolerated well. Some fillers are mixed with a mild anaesthetic so extra pain relief is ensured throughout the treatment. Numbing injections can also be used in some cases.

It is possible to experience some localised redness, tenderness and swelling to the area. This usually resolves within a few days. Bruising is also a possible side effect, though this is usually minimal and will take up to 7 days to resolve.

All our injectable treatments are carried out only by our highly experienced nurse prescribers so you know you are in safe hands.

Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen for at least 24 hours prior to treatment (unless instructed by your GP). Please avoid consuming alcohol for 24 hours prior and please attend without makeup.

Prices start from £220
