OVERVIEW

Dermal Filler
Correction

Unwanted, uneven or poorly placed ‘lumpy’ dermal fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called Hyaluronidase. This enzyme is naturally present in the skin, which is why semi permanent fillers eventually naturally disappear. It can be introduced in a higher dose to break down unwanted filler at a much quicker rate. The enzyme is a powder mixed with saline and injected into the area where the filler has been placed. The filler will be broken down and results can be
seen in as little as 24 hours. After just a few weeks, you can have new filler injected to correct the previous unwanted procedure.

Frequently
asked
questions

Any areas where unwanted filler is present.

You will be asked to attend a consultation with one of our nurse prescribers, during which they will carry out a medical history check, assess the area(s) of concern and agree upon a treatment plan to suit your needs.

Immediately before treatment, your practitioner will take you through the consent documents and take pre-treatment photographs. They will then carry out the patch test on your hand or arm to check for any allergic reactions. If no reactions are present 20 minutes after the test patch, the removal treatment can go ahead. The area will be cleaned and numbing cream applied. Once the area is numbed, removal injections can take as little as 5 minutes. The nurse prescriber will take post treatment photos and you will then be given aftercare advice, which will also be emailed to you.

Hyaluronidase enzymes can dissolve any hyaluronic acid based fillers such as Juvederm, Belotero and Restylane. Some types of permanent filler such as Radiesse and Sculptra which are not hyaluronic acid based will not be suitable for dissolving. Your practitioner should be able to tell you if you are suitable.

Yes, this is compulsory and carried out at least 20 minutes prior to injection of hyaluronidase to check for allergic reactions such as itching, redness or a raised lump on the skin, similar to an insect bite. If this occurs, treatment will not be carried out. If after 20 minutes, patients present no signs of allergy, the injection can be administered.

Hyaluronidase injections are not painful. Topical anaesthetic is applied prior to treatment to minimise any discomfort.

It is possible to experience some localised redness, tenderness and swelling to the area. This usually resolves within a few days. Bruising is also a possible side effect, though this is usually minimal and will take up to 7 days to resolve. If new filler is to be injected after removal, this must be done 2 weeks after filler removal. We advise that you plan filler removal and subsequent treatment at least 4 weeks prior to an important event, e.g. a wedding.

All our injectable treatments are only carried out by our highly experienced nurse prescribers so you know you are in safe hands.

We ask that you avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen for at least 24 hours prior to treatment (unless instructed by your GP). Please avoid consuming alcohol for 24 hours prior and please attend without makeup.

Price for filler removal starts at £150.
